Google Pay

How to add your Incard card to Google Pay, where you can use it, fees, security and troubleshooting.

Google Pay is coming soon to Incard. This article explains how it will work so you know what to expect. We'll let you know as soon as it's switched on for your account.

Google Pay lets you pay with your Incard card using your Android phone or Wear OS watch, without taking your card out of your pocket. It lives inside the Google Wallet app. The money still comes from the same account your card is linked to.

Which Incard cards you can add

- Both physical and virtual Incard cards can be added.

- Cards linked to your GBP, EUR or USD account are all supported. Payments are charged to that card's funding account exactly as they are today, and automatic currency conversion still handles transactions in other currencies.

- Your card needs to be active. If a card is frozen or has been deactivated, unfreeze it in the app first.

- If you have more than one card, you can add them all and pick which one to pay with.

How to add your card

From the Incard app — the quickest way:

- Open the Incard app and tap "Cards" at the bottom of the Home screen.

- Select the card you want to add.

- Tap "Add to Google Wallet" and follow the steps on screen.

From the Google Wallet app:

- Open Google Wallet and tap "Add to Wallet".

- Choose "Payment card", then "New credit or debit card".

- Scan your physical card, or enter the details manually. You can find your virtual card details in the Incard app after strong authentication.

- Accept the terms and complete verification.

Each device is set up separately, so add your card again on your watch or second phone if you want to pay with those too.

Where you can pay

- In shops — anywhere that accepts contactless. Unlock your phone and hold it near the reader.

- In apps and online — look for the Google Pay button at checkout, or use it to fill in your card details in Chrome.

- On a Wear OS watch — open the Wallet app on the watch and hold it near the reader.

Your phone needs NFC and a screen lock — a PIN, pattern, password or fingerprint. Google Pay won't work on a device with no screen lock set.

Because payments are authenticated on your device, Google Pay isn't subject to the usual contactless limit. Larger payments will ask you to confirm with your screen lock again at the terminal. Some merchants still set their own ceiling on contactless payments, so occasionally you may be asked to insert your physical card instead.

Fees

Incard does not charge you anything extra to use Google Pay. There is no fee to add your card, no fee to make a payment, and no fee to receive a refund through Google Pay.

Your normal card terms still apply. If you pay in a currency other than the one your card's account is held in, the usual currency conversion applies, just as it would with your physical card.

Notifications and tracking your spend

- You'll get an instant push notification every time your card is used for a purchase or a refund through Google Pay.

- Every transaction appears in the Incard app as normal, so you can categorise it, attach a receipt and include it in your reporting.

- Make sure notifications are enabled for the Incard app so you don't miss them.

How secure is it

- Your real card number isn't shared with the merchant. Google Pay uses a virtual account number instead, so the shop never sees your card details.

- Payments are protected by your screen lock, and larger amounts ask you to confirm it again at the terminal.

- If you lose your device, use Find My Device to lock or erase it remotely. Your physical card keeps working normally and doesn't need replacing.

- If you lose your physical card, freeze or replace it in the Incard app. This also stops it working in Google Pay.

Refunds and returns

- To return something, hold your phone near the reader the same way you did when you paid.

- Some merchants ask for the last four digits of the card you used. Give them the last four digits of the virtual account number shown in Google Wallet, not your physical card — open Google Wallet and tap your card to find it.

- Refunds reach your account in the same timeframe as any other card refund.

If something isn't working

Your card won't add:

- Check the card is active and not frozen in the Incard app.

- Make sure you've set a screen lock on your device.

- Check the Google Wallet app is up to date and you're signed in to your Google account.

- Devices that are rooted or have an unlocked bootloader can't be used with Google Pay.

A payment was declined:

- Check the balance on the account your card is linked to.

- Check the card isn't frozen and hasn't hit a spending limit set by your admin.

- Confirm NFC is turned on and the terminal accepts contactless payments.

If you're still stuck, message us from the Incard app or web app and we'll take a look.

Removing a card

Open Google Wallet, tap the card, then choose to remove it. Removing a card from Google Pay doesn't cancel it — your physical and virtual cards carry on working as normal.
